Guaranteed Ways to Build Up Your Ezine List

Here are tips gleaned from roughly 5 years spent building up an ezine list. I’ve also incorporated comments and tips from Jenna Glatzer, who successfully built her list up to 75,000 at her excellent site, www.absolutewrite.com

1. Free Stuff. Pick genuinely useful free stuff that you know your audience wants and needs. For instance, my brand new ezine, Expert Status, attracted 600 readers in just a few weeks by offering a report, “25 Top Self Help Literary Agents”. The practical freebie works. Jenna Glatzer offers two free ebooks/reports to subscribers on agents who are receptive to new writers, and on writer’s markets. She notes: “Before I did that, my subscriber numbers were in the hundreds, not thousands.

2. Put a subscribe box on every page of the site. This has worked for both Jenna and me. Mine is parked in the left hand column of the site. Experts advise putting a simple sign up box (with freebie mentioned) in the top left hand corner, as that’s where the eye naturally travels first. A simple sign up box that requests only email address works best.

3. Ad swaps. Exchange plugs for your ezine with another website, to run in eachother’s ezines. Be sure to mention those freebies! Doing this on a regular basis with a rotating selection of web partners will keep your subscription page busy.

4. Cross-registration. I’ve found subscribers by having a plug for my ezine on the thank you page of a comparable (but not directly competitive) website. This offer is made to folks who just signed up for an ezine, and are therefore deemed ‘in the mood for more.’ Offer a swap with your site, and try not to list more than about two other ezines. Also, make a point of including only really good, reliable publications that reach your target market.

5. Give away a bonus for other sites to use, based on your ezine. A popular web marketing technique is the special one or two-day promo that offers big bonus lists when you buy a certain product on those particular days. (I cover this promo technique in more detail in my ebook/binder, Get Known Now; How to Build Your Platform as a Self Help Expert.) So collect some of your best ezine essays, pack ‘em up in a downloadable PDF-based e-book, and offer it as a bonus these sites can use in their special promos. Don’t forget juicy descriptive copy about your ezine, and a subscribe link at the end of your ebook. I’ve gotten hundreds of new readers this way, and much traffic to my site.

6. Announce ezine ‘events’ on PRweb.com and other PR sites. There’s an entire world of web-based press release distribution services out there, some of which are low cost or even free. So use them. But be sure to only plant press releases that are truly newsworthy, and thus likely to get press attention. Even if the media don’t use your words this time, they’ll hopefully file you as an expert for future use.

7. Use discussion boards or groups. These are sites frequented by gangs of people interested in the same thing. Avoid the unmoderated sites, because they’re likely to be spam targets that generate little bonafide traffic. Boards found on member sites are the best. Don’t spam the board with your subscribe message. Instead, offer some genuinely helpful info. Then sign off with a signature line that includes ezine and subscribe info. You can find some of these groups at groups.yahoo.com, topica.com, mail-list.com, and listfool.com for starters.

8. Sponsor other people’s contests. Jenna Glatzer gives away products like her paid newsletter, Absolute Markets Premium Newsletter, to writers’ groups, contests, and conferences that request it, regardless of size. I’ve tried this too, to good effect. Simply run an announcement in your ezine that you’d be happy to sponsor comparable events. Ask them to provide a URL for an event description so you know it’s legit. Then offer up your gifts, and ask for a plug for your ezine and for them to talk up your dazzling freebie, as well. Jenna notes that groups she sponsors “often send out ads for us to their lists ? just as a thank you.”

9. Run quality content. There’s no substitute for heartfelt writing plus solid information about a subject that matters. Jenna writes: ‘The main reason our list stays so big is our ‘letter from the editor’ ? Each week, I chronicle my writing life and my triumphs and failures ? when an article is killed, when I’m having trouble finishing a book ? And I share personal things, too, like when my grandfather died?. People write: ‘ I feel like I know you so well.’ And I think that’s why they stay on the list, even when their mailbox fills up with dozens of other writer’s newsletters.

10. Allow reprints. Allow any newsletter that wants to reprint your articles do so. I like to have an email requesting permission, so I can enter their info into a big database I use to track where I can send more articles in the future. I end each article with the line: You may reprint this article in your own ezine or website. Simply send an email requesting permission to EMAIL ADDRESS. Please be sure to include our full bio box at the end.

11. Create a survey or contest. This would be one of those newsworthy ‘ezine events’ I mentioned above in point # 6. Make it a fun, relevant question that you could really develop a good, newsy story from. I did a survey asking people what they fought with their spouse/partner/boy or girlfriend about. The results made for the kind of reading offline media enjoy running short, 100-word pieces about (fillers.) I made sure to attribute the survey to my ezine, The Joy Letter, with a mention of the site’s basic URL. You can get the technology to run your own survey and collect responses at surveymonkey.com (for a fee) or bravenet.com (for free.)

I think I could actually go on and on here. The possibilities seem to be endless. If you try even half of these techniques on a regular basis, you’ll find your subscriber rates double and even triple. Here’s to building your list ? the foundation that much of your traffic and success rely on.

Do You See Clearly?

“I don’t see how I can just make up my mind to be happy and successful; and suddenly, magically, I will be. That seems to me to be a denial of my reality. My life is a mess. I am not happy. My life is not a success.” she wrote.

She was replying to my email response to her first inquiry. She had written to ask how I could write (in a previous article in this eZine) that if you wanted to be happy, you just had to choose to be happy. I had replied, in my first email, that how we felt about ourselves and our life was entirely within our control; and once we had decided to change how we felt, thought and believed, the circumstances and conditions of our lives would change to meet our new expectations.

This conundrum is surely the ‘catch-22′ of self-improvement. You must both accept the reality of where you are at and, at the same time, deny its ultimate veracity in order to create a new, bigger and better, reality.

Now, I am not saying you should go into denial about the facts of your life. That’s a huge mistake. Many people attempt to live with their shortcomings, failures and addictions by being in denial and it does not work. Nothing gets any better that way. Often it gets even worse.

Many people also attempt to change their life by muttering some affirmation like “I am happy, healthy, wealthy and wise,” in a blind attempt to convince themselves that they are not unhappy, unhealthy, impoverished and foolish. This does not work too well either.

I am not suggesting that affirmations are not useful. They can be a very powerful tool and, used properly, they can be a big help in changing your predominant thought patterns, your core beliefs and your basic emotional outlook on life.

However, it is necessary, if we wish to improve our lot in life, to first face and accept that we have certain core beliefs, predominant thought patterns and basic emotions attitudes. Then, we also must accept that it is these very beliefs, thoughts and emotions that have created the reality that we now have in our lives.

Then, we must decide to adopt new, improved, intentional ways of believing, thinking and feeling in order to create the new reality we have idealized and desired for ourselves. This is not denial. It is the acceptance of our co-creative abilities; and, the acceptance our freedom to choose what and how to think, believe and feel. It is the taking on of the responsibility for one’s life, as it is, and as it could be.

It is the facing and accepting of the truth that we cannot blame the conditions and circumstances of our present life for how we feel, how and what we think, what we believe. It is the facing and accepting of the truth that how we have been feeling, how and what we have been thinking, what we have been believing has actually contributed to the conditions and circumstances of our lives.

What we have is a result of what we have done. What we have done is a result of how we have been. How we have been is a result of how we have felt, thought and believed about ourselves and about life as a whole.

If you want to change or improve what you have in life (the conditions, circumstances–the effects), you must address the cause. You have the power to consciously and intentionally choose your feelings, your thoughts and your beliefs. These are the cause of your happiness and success because they control how you act or react, what you do or don’t do and it is what you enact, moment-by-moment, that produces the results you get to have day-to-day.

Yes, it is tough work. However, it is not as tough as living an unhappy and unsuccessful life. Why continue to do so just because you are habituated to doing so?

So, it is not about denying the reality of how life has been until now; it is about seeing and accepting that there is a greater reality in how you choose life will be from now on. Focus your vision on the ideal. Affirm its reality. Feel its reality. Believe in its reality. Act accordingly. Don’t be surprised when it turns out to be just the way you imagined it to be.

11 Extraordinary Ways To Expand Your Subscriber List

Here are 11 ways to expand your subscriber list:

1. Use a conversational writing tone. It makes a connection. Yet, don’t get lax on the grammar and spelling. Use personal pronouns (I, me, you and your). Limit the percentage of I’s to half or less of the yous.

2. Spread the knowledge even further by asking your readership to forward a copy of your ezine to family members, friends, colleagues, or co-workers. Create a “please forward this ezine to” line or two. Give them an incentive, offer a free but-not-free item. This can be challenging to design.

3. Do you give presentations with slides or a projection system? Add a paragraph about your ezine and how to get it on the test slide. A test slide is the slide you leave up there when they are seating themselves. Leave it displayed until a few minutes before your presentation and then turn it off. By turning it off, it creates a “loss feeling” and they will pay attention to it the next time you turn it on.

Turn the system on with the test slide displayed and then switch to the next slide. The next slide can explain how they can get your free but-not-for-free product and the directions on how to receive it. Return to this same slide at the end of your presentation.

4. At this same presentation, pass around a clipboard asking them if they want to register for ezine. Start passing at the beginning or even before you start. Use a short piece, different colored paper, with a note about the free but-not-free item. Give them three incentives to register at that time.

5. Send out a press release every time you have a new free but-not-free item available. Send whenever you have new context, new article published, or whenever anything else occurs. Since press releases require special writing, you might want to delegate this, especially if you are challenged with writing from another perspective. If you choose to learn the lingo, you can learn the how-tos with a Google search: Search example: “press release” and “how to”. Leave in the quote marks. Don’t be nervous about sending out too many, some are always missed. http://www.prweb.com/ is a great place to post your press releases.

6. Locate web sites that give out awards for outstanding ezines. Apply and keep applying. Keep tweaking. Look at previous winners and model. When you do win one, post it everywhere on your site and on every issue of your ezine for a year. Also, send out a press release when you do. If they create a press release as well, ask to use that one. Make copies of theirs and give it out at networking events. Remember, you can’t win the lotto unless you play. So, get in the game, and apply. Try: http://emailuniverse.com/bestezines/ or search on Google with: “ezine award”.

7. I’m frequently asked, “How much information should I ask for?” My recommendation is to KISS your subscriber form — “keep it short and simple.” Ask for the e-mail address and/or their first name. If you ask for their first name, tell them why. Example: We like to personalize our correspondence with our subscribers.”

8. Set up section for past issues of your e-newsletters. I recommend just listing their main topic or name of the article and not by date. People don’t like to read things that they consider “old news”. If you use a pdf format to deliver past issues there are pros and cons. The pros are: pdf files are smaller to store and send. The con is that you loose the opportunity for tagging the item for search engine listing.

9. After you post your articles in the ezine, expand or submit as is to multi-media web sites. Possibility: http://www.goarticles.com. Locations where publishers and editors will pick up the article. Normally, there are no fees paid, just opportunity for visibility. When published send out a press release. Link their site, not yours, in the press release, Send them a copy of the release.

10. Readers are tired of not getting any value and are dropping off lists fast. faster than ever. To keep them there you MUST provide valuable information (their perception not yours). The 25/75% rule (you give them 25% and sell them the remaining 75%) is acceptable. After reading thousands of ezines, I found many publishers don’t come close to providing that percentage.

11. Add an invitation to all your automatic e-mail signatures. Also, mention the free but-not-free item of the month. Include an expiration date for that free but-not- free offer. Change the e-mail signatures weekly to maintain interest.

5 Critical Mistakes Most Freelance Copywriters Make

Think you have what it takes to be a freelance copywriter? I wasn’t so sure I knew when I first started in 1999. All I knew was I desperately wanted to work from home to raise my two sons after my divorce. It took a lot of trial and error to get to the stabile and profitable business I am running now in 2005. There are some things I learned along the way I wish I knew much earlier in the game.

One thing I learned is that writing is a very small part of being a successful freelance copywriter. Don’t get me wrong. You DO need to know how to write. But your success depends largely on your savvy as a businessperson. How do I know? Because I’ve played it from both sides of the street. And I didn’t begin to enjoy success until I started doing some very distinct things in my business.

Please let me share with you some of the mistakes I made starting out so you can avoid those pitfalls yourself?and catapult to success much faster than it took me.

Mistake #1: Don’t attract new clients.

When I first started out in 1999 I had exactly one client. He kept me very busy?for awhile. Then, without warning, he suddenly shifted his business to 100% offline and began using a copywriter with more experience in that area. I floundered for 10 months before I got back on my feet again from that blow.

Solution: NEVER stop marketing yourself. Even if you have a full practice, don’t stop getting the word out. Write articles and press releases. Do interviews whenever possible. Start an ezine and/or a blog so your name is always out there. Don’t get caught flat-footed.

Mistake #2: Don’t effectively manage your clients.

At first I was so grateful to have any clients I let them call all the shots – regardless of what was in my best interest. It took me a long time to realize every client is not a match for me. Sometimes they were unreasonable in deadlines. Other times they would call me at all hours?including 6 a.m. and even on the weekends. (Until I learned to communicate better there were even a few clients I had to fire!) Bottom line is you can never have enough communication.

Solution: Have the client fill out a detailed questionnaire to open up lines of communication. Get a feel for his or her expectations. Add an extra cushion to your deadline. If possible, get a gatekeeper (assistant) to set up schedule so you can focus on what you do best – writing.

Mistake #3: Poor time management.

Eager to please, I often did not give myself enough lead time for an assignment. I’d say, “I’ll do it!” before I looked at the reality of my schedule. So I’d have to pull all nighters or miss important family events. I was incredibly stressed and not a lot of fun to be around.

Solution: Schedule your daily schedule BEFORE you go to bed at night. Turn off email until you’ve made some headway with your copy. And use a kitchen timer to work in increments of 35 minutes (studies show after that frame your mind craves distraction). When the ding goes off, get up, stretch and clear your head.

Mistake #4: Not getting paid enough as a copywriter.

Face it?copywriters do a lot more work than most people realize. We have to deeply research the client’s business, competition and target market. Then we have to write excellent copy that crawls inside the head of the prospect and leads them to a specific action. I didn’t find out until late in the game there is more than one way to structure a deal. I only recently figured out how to get paid on the front end AND the back end for my work. (There is still a ton I need to learn about this which is why I can’t wait for the exclusive Dan Kennedy seminar on the business of copywriting in October!)

Solution: Value yourself enough to get paid what you’re worth. Have an iron-clad contract that protects you.

Mistake #5: Don’t invest in yourself.

I have read the classic “Think and Grow Rich” 14 times. Every time I read it, I learn something new. I go to seminars (even when I’ve heard the speakers before). Because I learn something new every time. I have a huge marketing library of books, binders, home study courses, CDs, DVDs, MP3s and I listen to them over and over. Again, every time I take in material, whether it’s new or old, I learn something new.

Successful people in all walks of life invest in themselves. It’s one of the keys that separates them from the less successful. (Trust me, at times it hurt to part with the massive amounts of cash I’ve laid out for this education. But the payoff happens every time. Just do it.)

Solution: If you’re looking to attract more money into your business, start by investing in yourself. Think LONG TERM. As the old adage says, “If you’re not growing, you’re dying.”

Five Ways To Promote Your Ezine

After you’ve spent countless hours creating and publishing your own newsletter online, you still have to consider the fact that merely adding it to your website will not make it an overnight success.

You need to attract subscribers. There are several fairly easy ways to accomplish this goal.

1) Add your ezine details to every directory listing you can find online. There are a number of comprehensive websites devoted primarily to publishing ezine information. One list is published on this website – http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art12836.asp

2) Offer subscribers something free in return for their subscription to your ezine. This could be a free report, a free advertisement in a future issue of your publication, a free ebook, etc…

3) Submit the details of your new ezine to as all related Announcement Lists. Depending upon your content, you may find a helpful list on this page – http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art12838.asp

4) Talk about your latest endeavor in online forums related to your ezine topic. You can find various lists of forums by searching Google, Yahoo or Dogpile.

5) Reward subscribers for referring new subscribers. Again this can be in the form of a free advertisement for each person they recommend to your ezine (who actually becomes a subscriber.)

Remember that you definitely have competition for readership. There are probably plenty of newsletters online, which are similar to yours. You have to make it stand out from the crowd. Make it different, more appealing, more informative, etc…

Best of luck to you!

Ezine Advertising Strategy Exposed-16 Tips to Boost Your Profit

In my opinion, Electronic Magazine (Ezine) advertising is the greatest, untapped source of online advertising available today.

The reason: Ezine Advertising (EA) matches your product or idea to people with similar interests.

Example: who better to sell your health product to than a large group of people subscribed to a health newsletter? Or, you could pitch a business opportunity to a group already subscribed to another ezine about MLM and Biz Ops!

The idea of EA is fairly simple – but to make yours a success, you have to first determine which ezines or newsletters produce results, and which ones to avoid.

After a year and a half of EA, I’ve created a formula that produces increasing profit because I’ve learned how to avoid poor performing ezines and rip offs, while revealing the gems.

Strategy for Profit

I used to get ripped off about once for every 2 or 3 ezines I advertised in. They either took my money without running my ad (and ignored my subsequent emails), or my proven ads did too poorly for the money I paid.

The reasons ranged from abandoned ezines with working payment links, unethical newsletter owners, to a lot of ignorance and impatience on my part.

If you follow my proven strategy, you’ll discover the best sources of ezines to advertise in – no matter who your target group is. And, you should see positive results every time.

This article outlines the steps to making your EA a successful return on investment (ROI).

Writing Your Ad

I won’t go into details about ad writing, but if your ad is poorly written or untested, you should start with the cheapest ezines first. If you’re really unsure of your writing abilities, I further suggest hiring a professional to write your ad for you.

Because you can run your ad as many times as you want, your investment in a professional will more than pay for itself in the end.

Target your advertising

If you leap into EA without first researching your target group, you’ll end up wasting a lot of time and money. Plus, you probably miss some of the best ezines available.

To determine who your prospect is, take the time to list the possible keywords that directly relate to your product and do keyword searches for ezines, newsletters, and ezine directories.

For example, if you sell herbs, a good keyword search would include: herbs, health, nutrition, supplements, etc.

Avoid Co-ops

While doing your ezine research, you will probably stumble upon the offer to use Co-op (bulk) advertising as the means for your EA.

To be blunt, you should never pay to use Co-ops for your EA because they are too difficult to track and usually contain untargeted ezines. Worse still, you’d find that most never run your ad.

Subscribe

Now that you’ve found your ezine target group, you’ll want to know whether the ezines you found are a good option (i.e. profitable) for your EA.

I’ve found the best strategy for making this determination is to subscribe to the targeted ezines.

To keep the subscriptions readily available for further research, I recommend creating a separate folder to store your subscription data.

And because you’ll need to subscribe to quite a few ezines, I also suggest creating separate email accounts dedicated to your ezine subscriptions.

Double Opt-In Subscriptions

In the process of subscribing, you’ll quickly determine possible ezines to avoid. When you subscribe and get a notice that you must confirm your subscription, the ezine is referred to as “double opt-in”.

Double opt-in ezines indicates a better quality of subscribers with a lower risk of bulk email addresses. For you and me, this means better ad responses (yeah!).

Solo Ads

Within the first week of your new ezine subscription, you should see solo ads from other advertisers. If not, the ezine may be too new, or worse, no one is advertising because of poor results. Worse yet, the ezine took the advertiser’s money and failed to run the ad.

On the other hand, if you see two or more solo ads a day, their list is probably burned out due to over advertising. You’re looking for no more than one ad a day, or a minimum of one ad a week. Keep watching!

Subject Line

Does the ezine put the advertiser’s subject line in the subject of the email or do they just say something like “Solo ad from xyz ezine”?

Your subject line is the most important part of your ad and definitely should be in the subject of the email. No subject line equals no response.

Advertiser Response

Repeat (or regular) advertisers in an ezine is a very good sign that the subscribers are responsive. To further test responsiveness, I recommend looking through the ezine’s online archives (if available).

Archives are previous email publications that the publisher has posted to their website for visitors to view. The archive search is not only quick and easy, but archives can also provide an extra trickle of visitors when your ad gets archived.

Testimonial Page

After passing the above steps, see if your prospective ezine has a testimonial page. If the ezine has gotten this far, chances are it will.

Waiting Period

Another indicator of responsive subscribers is the waiting period to run an ad in the chosen ezine. If the waiting period is a month or more, this indicates a very popular ezine with responsive readers. You’ve uncovered a real gem!

Web Forms

I’ve found that the better ezines have web forms that get your ad to the publisher’s inbox and usually send auto confirmation of receipt. If there is no web form, try emailing the publisher a question first, like when the next ad run date is.

No response may indicate a poor choice in the ezine, or your email was filtered or blocked as spam. Wait at least 2 days and try emailing again using a different email account.

If your emails still don’t get through, neither will your ad. (Ironically, your payment always go through). Trust me, if they fail to communicate, save your money and time and move on.

Free Classifieds

If the ezine offers free classifieds, this is another good place to run your ad. Since classifieds usually don’t produce responses, any activity from your ad here would further indicate an active readership.

Ad Tracking

Never advertise without using an ad tracker. You can purchase one or better, use one of the many available online for free. Ad trackers give you a url that you use in place of your website address.

The new url gives you important information like how many visitors you had, where they came from, and some list the number of sales per visitor.

This tracking information is crucial to the direction of your ad campaign because you’ll learn of the need to change your ad and/or the sales page. More importantly, you’ll know for certain whether the ezine produced enough visitors for the advertising price you paid.

Run Your Ad Twice

If your ad produced a great response, wait a week or two and run the ad again in the same ezine. I’ve found you’ll probably get as good if not better results the second time around.

I would advise against running the ad a third time in a row because most of your prospects will be found in the first two runs.

Using a Capture Page or Auto-Responder

To maximize your efforts, you want to “capture” your visitors so you can send them additional information about your product, related merchandise, and pertinent updates.

This is done with a capture page that provides a place for visitors to put their name and email address. There are different methods to accomplish this and you may want to hire someone to do it for you if you’re not comfortable installing scripts on your website.

You might also want to send your visitor directly to your autoresponder, where you have a series of messages set up to “warm and inform” your prospect about your product or service.

Rotating Ads

Once your ad has been tested and you have a base of 5-10 solid, performing ezines, start rotating your ad between your ezines.

For optimal results, make sure 2-3 months have passed before running your ad in the same publication. Keep building your base and watch your profits grow!

Five Profitable Ways To Use Your Follow Up Autoresponder

What? You are not using a Follow up Autoresponder? Then better be. If you are SERIOUS about increasing your subscriber database, you need Follow up autoresponders.

Web site promotion should start with search engines. Next comes your opt-in list. To maintain your opt-in list you need a mailing list manager or an autoresponder. You can publish your ezine or offer a free email course through your autoresponders.

What are Follow up autoresponders?

Follow up autoresponders send a series of emails to your prospects that goes at specified intervals. You have complete control on this interval period.

Some of the Follow up Autoresponders: (These are follow up autoresponders with mailing list manager features like broadcast emails)

http://www.autoresponseplus.com/

http://www.scripts4webmasters.com/arpproadv/index.shtml

What you can do with your Follow up autoresponder:

1. Offer free email courses:

Load your autoresponder with a series of emails as a free course. Name it as ‘Mini course that doubles Your profits in 7 days’ or something like that. User should really get temptation to subscribe for your course.

Once they subscribe, emails will go at the set up intervals.

Remember these tips before offering an email course: =Name your email course something attractive =Don’t keep too much gap between your emails =If possible refresh the previous topic in every next email =Keep short URLs =Try to use short courses like 7 – 10 days. It would be interesting for your reader. They should’t feel like a classroom =Check the URLs before loading them in to your autoresponder

2. Follow up your customer:

After your buyer purchase your product they will be landed on your subscription form. They will enter their name and email address. They will be redirected to your download page. You can set a follow up emails at an interval of 15 or 30 days. Offer some discount in this follow up emails on your other products. Selling a product to your present customer is easier than searching for a new prospect. In this method, you have to keep one form for each of your product.

3. Conduct quizzes, polls:

Yes. You can fill your follow up autoresponder with 10 quizz questions and can set up to send it one per day. People that answer all questions correct will get a discount on your product or free product or free membership etc. DON’T forget to keep your product links in each of your emails. This is a kind of advertisement for you.

4. Benefit from your Ezine articles:

You write ezine articles. Don’t you? Good…

Then load your Follow up autoresponder with 5 – 10 ezine articles and put a subscribe link on your web pages or in your signature file. Send the link to publishers who are willing to receive your articles. Your articles will be delivered to the subscribers and publishers at an interval of 30 days or what ever time you set up there.

I like to send the articles every 1 – 2 months to my publishers list. Good publishers always file articles they receive. So if you send them too frequently, it will be little annoying. So better to keep minimum interval of one month.

5. You can also use your follow up autoresponder to send:

  • testimonials of your products
  • ebook chapters as samples
  • product reviews
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Tutorials

    Where Do Your Eyes Gaze?

The pupils of the eyes will dilate (enlarge) up to four times their normal size when excited. An angry, negative mood causes the pupils to contract (become smaller). When a person is being dishonest or holding back information, their eyes will meet yours less than 1/3 of the time.

To build good rapport with someone, your gaze should meet theirs 60% to 70% of the time.

BUSINESS GAZE – Imagine there is a triangle on the other person’s forehead. Keep your gaze directed on this area. This will create a serious atmosphere. The other person will know you mean business.

SOCIAL GAZE – When the gaze drops below the other person’s eye level, a social atmosphere develops. Look at the triangular area below the eyes (include the nose and mouth).

INTIMATE GAZE – This gaze goes across the eyes and below the chin to other parts of the body. When close it forms a triangle from the eyes to both sides of the chest or breasts. From a distance it is from the eyes to the crotch. If the person is interested, he/she will return the gaze.

The type of gaze you use in face to face encounters have powerful results. Use the appropriate gaze for this situation.

To control a person’s gaze, use a pen or point to a visual aid, as you explain something for them. Next, lift the pointer from the visual aid and hold it between their eyes and yours. This will help them to see and hear what you want them to.

Research has shown that of the information relayed to a person’s brain, 80% comes through the eyes, 9% through the ears, and 4% through other senses.

4 Effective Ways To Use Autoresponders To Increase Your Sales

An autoresponder is a very powerful tool for any online business. Basically, an autoresponder is used to ease your tasks. Automation is critical when running an online business. Hence you won’t need to do the tiring and boring manual tasks if you automate your business.

An autoresponder simply sends backs a precomposed message to the recipient who requested information from it by sending an email to this autoresponder address.

But autoresponders can be used for far more advanced tasks to increase your sales for instance.

    1. Use your autoresponder to publish an ezine

A nice function available in most autoresponders nowadays is the broadcast feature.

Every person who requests more information from your autoresponder eg to subscribe is automatically added to your autoresponder database. Hence you will be able to use the broadcast feature to publish your ezine and your subscribers in your database will receive your newsletter automatically.

This is a low cost way to create mailing lists that your visitors can subscribe to including your own ezine that you can use to effectively market your products.

Concentrate on making your ezine a source of valuable information for your subscribers and you’ll be able to create an ezine that your subscribers look forward to reading and that increases your sales.

    2. Use your autoresponder to deliver an email course

A very simple but yet powerful method of increasing your sales is to create an email course that contains valuable information.

For eg if you are creating an email course about Internet marketing, you can write an article that lists 7 Internet marketing methods.

    Method 1 – Search Engines

    Method 2 – Ezine Advertising

    Method 3 – Joint ventures

Method 4 – Opt In Email

    Method 5 – Affiliate Programs

    Method 6 – Article Writing

    Method 7 – Link Partnerships

Then put every marketing method in your autoresponder on a 7-day cycle. Hence every person who requests this course will receive each lesson for a period of 7 days.

In each method, try to find products, be it affiliate products or your own products that are related to this marketing technique and include a link.

For example if you own an ebook on how to write articles to promote your business, you can include a link to that product in method 6.

    3. Use your autoresponder to provide a report

Reports can be articles that you can easily deliver via an autoresponder. If you have an article called “7 Powerful Internet Marketing Tactics To Promote Your Online Business”, you can easily use it as a report.

Include the links to the products to complement each method.

    4. Use your autoresponder to promote your articles

Autoresponders are very effective ways to promote your articles along with your website.

You can make your articles on your site or in the emails that you send to ezine editors to consider your recent article for publication available by autoresponder. You can say something like.

All my other articles available for reprint at articles@autorespondername.com

Make your articles available by autoresponder along with your publishing guidelines. If you’ve written lots of articles, make a master list of your articles available by autoresponder that lists all of your articles along with their autoresponder addresses.

This can provide you with a terrific way to get your articles published on a regular basis by ezine publishers and webmasters who enjoy your writing.

Autoresponders should form part of your Internet business. Without them, your business will suffer.

Consider an autoresponder as your own 24hr marketing machine.

This article can be freely published on a website as long as it’s not modified in any way including the author bylines, plus the hyperlink must be made active just like below.

Jean Lam is the webmaster of Email Autoresponder which provides autoresponder review, article and courses to boost your marketing efforts.
