Should Baby Bedding Be Tight or Loose?

Many parents already know that it is better not to use bedding with small babies. It would be better for them to be dressed in something that will keep them warm. In case you feel the need to use bedding, you should be careful for it not to be very soft. It is preferable to use a sheet and a blanket, and not a comforter or duvet.

A baby under the age of three months can be swaddled in the blanket while older babies or younger ones who cry if they are swaddled, should be made the bed at the bottom. You should put the baby’s feet against the footboard of the crib. The bedding should be tucked into the bottom of the bed, then you should bring the blankets and sheets up, across the chest, and tuck them in. If you do that, the baby cannot wriggle down and get his face covered by the bedding.

There are baby sleeping bags that can be bought, or you can make one of your own. They are like a sleep suit, they have cutouts for the arms, and a zipper at the front of the suit. There shouldn’t be a hood. These sleeping bags are a very good solution to the problem of bedding, because they cannot cause suffocation and they keep the baby covered during the night.

Cardio Enthusiasts: Discover a More Effective Training Method for Fat Loss and Heart Health!

It is common to hear fitness professionals and medical doctors prescribe low to moderate intensity aerobic training (cardio) to people who are trying to prevent heart disease or lose weight. Most often, the recommendations constitute something along the lines of “perform 30-60 minutes of steady pace cardio 3-5 times per week maintaining your heart rate at a moderate level”. Before you just give in to this popular belief and become the “hamster on the wheel” doing endless hours of boring cardio, I’d like you to consider some recent scientific research that indicates that steady pace endurance cardio work may not be all it’s cracked up to be.

First, realize that our bodies are designed to perform physical activity in bursts of exertion followed by recovery, or stop-and-go movement instead of steady state movement. Recent research is suggesting that physical variability is one of the most important aspects to consider in your training. This tendency can be seen throughout nature as all animals demonstrate stop-and-go motion instead of steady state motion. In fact, humans are the only creatures in nature that attempt to do “endurance” type physical activities. Most competitive sports (with the exception of endurance running or cycling) are also based on stop-and-go movement or short bursts of exertion followed by recovery. To examine an example of the different effects of endurance or steady state training versus stop-and-go training, consider the physiques of marathoners versus sprinters. Most sprinters carry a physique that is very lean, muscular, and powerful looking, while the typical dedicated marathoner is more often emaciated and sickly looking. Now which would you rather resemble?

Another factor to keep in mind regarding the benefits of physical variability is the internal effect of various forms of exercise on our body. Scientists have known that excessive steady state endurance exercise (different for everyone, but sometimes defined as greater than 60 minutes per session most days of the week) increases free radical production in the body, can degenerate joints, reduces immune function, causes muscle wasting, and can cause a pro-inflammatory response in the body that can potentially lead to chronic diseases. On the other hand, highly variable cyclic training has been linked to increased anti-oxidant production in the body and an anti-inflammatory response, a more efficient nitric oxide response (which can encourage a healthy cardiovascular system), and an increased metabolic rate response (which can assist with weight loss). Furthermore, steady state endurance training only trains the heart at one specific heart rate range and doesn’t train it to respond to various every day stressors. On the other hand, highly variable cyclic training teaches the heart to respond to and recover from a variety of demands making it less likely to fail when you need it. Think about it this way — Exercise that trains your heart to rapidly increase and rapidly decrease will make your heart more capable of handling everyday stress. Stress can cause your blood pressure and heart rate to increase rapidly. Steady state jogging and other endurance training does not train your heart to be able to handle rapid changes in heart rate or blood pressure.

The important aspect of variable cyclic training that makes it superior over steady state cardio is the recovery period in between bursts of exertion. That recovery period is crucially important for the body to elicit a healthy response to an exercise stimulus. Another benefit of variable cyclic training is that it is much more interesting and has lower drop-out rates than long boring steady state cardio programs.

To summarize, some of the potential benefits of variable cyclic training compared to steady state endurance training are as follows: improved cardiovascular health, increased anti-oxidant protection, improved immune function, reduced risk for joint wear and tear, reduced muscle wasting, increased residual metabolic rate following exercise, and an increased capacity for the heart to handle life’s every day stressors. There are many ways you can reap the benefits of stop-and-go or variable intensity physical training. One of the absolute most effective forms of variable intensity training to really reduce body fat and bring out serious muscular definition is performing wind sprints. Most competitive sports such as football, basketball, racquetball, tennis, hockey, etc. are naturally comprised of highly variable stop-and-go motion. In addition, weight training naturally incorporates short bursts of exertion followed by recovery periods. High intensity interval training (varying between high and low intensity intervals on any piece of cardio equipment) is yet another training method that utilizes exertion and recovery periods. For example, an interval training session on the treadmill could look something like this:

Warm-up for 3-4 minutes at a fast walk or light jog;
Interval 1 – run at 8.0 mi/hr for 1 minute;
Interval 2 – walk at 4.0 mi/hr for 1.5 minutes;
Interval 3 – run at 10.0 mi/hr for 1 minute;
Interval 4 – walk at 4.0 mi/hr for 1.5 minutes;
Repeat those 4 intervals 4 times for a very intense 20-minute workout.

The take-away message from this article is to try to train your body at highly variable intensity rates for the majority of your workouts to get the most beneficial response in terms of heart health, fat loss, and muscle maintenance.

Is it Focus or Tunnel Vision?

To achieve success you must narrow your vision on your plan. The question you should consider, is it focus or tunnel vision?

The former refers to bringing into focus, to adjust the focus of (as the eye or a lens), to concentrate attention or effort on the most urgent problems

Tunnel vision is constriction of the visual field resulting in loss of peripheral vision, like looking down a tunnel, unaware of what is going on around you. The expression “tunnel vision” may also be used as a metaphor for narrow-mindedness or to describe researchers or investigators (such as entrepreneurs) who pursue an investigation with their conclusion already decided and proceed by only accepting evidence that supports their conclusion and excluding any evidence that contradicts their assumptions.

Adjusting the focal length brings what you are viewing into a sharp focus. At the same time it makes everything else fuzzy. The mind is much like the eyes and adjustable lenses. If you go forth like a horse with side blinders on, ignoring your peripheral vision, you may miss danger signs or opportunities.

Sometimes we stare and unconsciously hold our eyes open without blinking. This causes strain and a feeling of dry and tired eyes. Keeping the eyes moving and changing the focus is the way to break this cycle. The mind can be put in a trance when we concentrate at one thing for a long period of time. This can produce a zombie like feeling and hamper production. Use your imagination to explore different ideas. This will keep you alert and you just might discover a gem.

It is necessary to focus on the area you are working in, but be aware of what is going on around you. One can get caught up in his creativity and think it is brilliant until it is compared with the competition. Concentrate on what you are doing, but don’t let it hypnotize you.

Your mind will be sharper if you feed it with a variety of things. Think about your plan, but always consider how you might improve it. You need to rely on your strengths and beef up your weaknesses.

Are you concentrating on your method so intently that it makes everything else blurred? Focus on other methods occasionally and then go back to yours. You might see something that you could adapt into your system to make it work better. Don’t ignore evidence that your plan is flawed. Inspect it closely and determine how to correct it.

Is your advertizing plan the best it can be? Do you track all areas to see which area is best and which is weakest? Have you compared your website with others to see how you measure up? What are they doing that you don’t do? How could you make yours more appealing?

Being an entrepreneur is about using your mind in the right way. It is easy to get to thinking the wrong way and make wrong decisions. Look at it from several perspectives to analyze it correctly. There must be a balance between performing your routine and doing research into the best methods. Spend time reading, but don’t be overwhelmed with an overload of information. There are many good articles and other sources available. Pick some of the best and learn from them.

Concentrate on your work but don’t focus so sharply that it becomes tunnel vision. Spend time relaxing with family and friends. Sometimes you get so close to your work that your mind becomes frozen. Taking a break will help you reset it, so that the course of action becomes clear.

Sympathy Flowers

Sending a floral tribute is a very appropriate way of expressing sympathy to a family who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Flowers express a feeling of life and beauty and offer much comfort to the family. A floral tribute can either be sent to a funeral service or to the family’s residence. Here are some suggestions to assist you in sending sympathy flowers.

Funeral Basket- Appropriate to send to a funeral or memorial service. Pricing will vary depending on the type and quantity of flowers. Ask your florist for details and availability of specific flowers.

Funeral Spray- This is a large arrangement designed in floral foam and attached to an easel. It is appropriate to send to a funeral service. Sometimes they are transported to the gravesite. Try to order a spray at least a couple days before the service, as it takes time to create this large arrangement. An alternative to this artistic style is to have your florist use a cross form. Your florist can deliver this spray to the service with an identification card, including your message.

Wreath- A beautiful alternative to a standard funeral spray. Wreaths are also attached to an easel. Wreaths are often placed at the service, and sometimes moved to the gravesite. Some wreaths can be heart shaped. Ribbons with sentiment can also be added for a personal touch.

Casket Cover- One of the most impressive sympathy floral designs is a casket cover. They do come in a variety of sizes. Casket sprays come in Quarter, Half or Full Casket Style which is the whole length of the casket. Because it would be difficult to accomodate more than one of these large designs, you will want to make sure that the family has not already arranged for one of these. This is typically supplied by close family members. These are one of the more expensive sympathy floral designs. These tributes also need to be ordered in advance, as they are large and take time to create.

Inside Casket Piece- A memorial tribute specifically made to be placed in the casket. Whether it be a small clutch of flowers, a garland or a small wreath, this flower design can be placed on the inside lid of the casket, for open casket services. This is also typically supplied by immediate family, and not sent as a sympathy arrangement.

Flower Vase- If you are unable to send something to the service, consider sending a vase of flowers to the family’s residence. This is appropriate before or after the service. It is best not to send it the day of the service, as the family will not be at home to accept delivery. A beautiful vase of flowers can express your sympathy to the entire family during their difficult time. Include a message card with your name(s). Your florist can recommend an appropriate style to send to your recipient.

Peace Lily- An indoor green plant with white blooms, appropriate to send to the family’s residence. Be sure to have the florist add a message card, just as you would include with a flower arrangement. The Peace Lily is popular as a sympathy plant, most likely due to it’s namesake. Your florist may also be able to suggest another blooming plant.

Some final notes:

Pet Loss can be just as tragic to someone as losing a human member of their family. Don’t forget to send flowers to those mourning the loss of a beloved pet. They will appreciate your support and condolences.

Consider sending flowers after the funeral. It is also a thoughtful gesture to send flowers even weeks after the funeral service to show the family that they are in your thoughts. It would be appropriate to include a message card letting them know you are thinking of them.

If you are unsure about what would be appropriate to send, ask your florist. They are the experts, and can recommend the ideal floral design to express your sympathy.

Details are very important when sending flowers, especially sympathy flowers. By calling a real local florist located in the town you are sending to, you will be able to speak directly to the florist designing and delivering your floral gift. You will also get a better value.

1000 Proof Liquor

Each and every woman is an actress in their own way, and many of the methods that they use to trick us are so built into their psyches that there is a good chance they are not even aware of the fact that they are being deceptive. A wide range of techniques fall into this category, however, I’m only going to be talking about one that has particularly attracted my interest. I like to call this behavior “1000 proof liquor”.

It only makes sense that a women will get more intoxicated by drinking the same amount of beer/liquor as a man, but there are limits to what is believable and what is not. When a woman feels that being very drunk may be in her best interest, she will simply “fake” it. You may not have even noticed it half of the time… but you’ve definitely seen this in action before, and so many women use this technique this that I would be shocked if you haven’t.

For example, one category of woman that we are all familiar with (some of us more than others :P ) use this tactic religiously, and have it mastered down to a science. We all know at least one “slut”, and I would like you to think about the last time you were around one while she was drinking. Did she get extremely drunk after drinking only 1-2 beers or shots? Of course she did, because ALL sluts do.

Now why would that be? Why would almost every “sexually challenged” woman get drunk so easily?

It’s quite simple. When ANY woman is drinking and has already decided that she would like to have sex with a particular man, she will begin to ACT drunk in order to have something to blame her behavior on, thus making her not appear to be “easy” because she can say “Well… I had a lot to drink…” or something to that effect. This also works along with mind over matter… their acting drunk creates the illusion that they are more intoxicated than actuality, and their mind may begin to believe it.

By now it should be obvious why all “sluts” behave in this fashion… they know they are going home with SOMEBODY, so they might as well start acting drunk and get the show on the road. However, these women that tend to hop into bed with little prodding are not the only ones who use this “1000 proof liquor” technique, and you will find that just about any woman will act this way when drinking around a guy that she wants.

Now that you know why women do this, you can use it to your advantage, without any guilt…

Whenever you notice a female acting very drunk and flirting with you after only drinking a small amount of alcohol, don’t think that you may be taking advantage of her… it’s actually the opposite. She is taking advantage of you because she is attempting to deceive you by acting in such a way that justifies her excessive flirting.

Further more, she is actually TRYING to be taken advantage of, and going far out of her way to do so. Any woman who acts this way around you is obviously very interested in you, and I suggest not wasting much time on macking… you’ve already got it in the bag.

One of the most obvious signs that a woman is using the “1000 proof liquor” trick is when she constantly repeats any of the following phrases (or anything similar): “I’m soooo drunk”, “Do I look drunk?”, “Am I acting drunk?”, “I’m really feeling that ________”. These phrases all translate into “If you want me I’m yours”, because like I said before – she wants to let you know that it is ok for you to make a move, and this is a very simple, yet effective method of doing so… drunk women are smarter than you’d think :)

Effects of Tanning Beds – Is it a Boon or a Bane?

Tanning beds – a boon or a bane? That is the million dollar question that’s uppermost on all tanning-interested people. The effect of tanning beds is not a subject that can be put to rest quickly as the pros and cons maintain almost a supernatural balance with each other. In the industry of tanning beds, tanning bed lotions, tanning bed pillows and other tanning bed accessories, the effects of use are either little understood or worse, suffer from total ignorance. Here, we try to articulate some basic facts about tanning.

Tanning is a body reaction to ultraviolet radiation, typically of two types UVA and UVB. Both these types of radiation have been associated with side effects of tanning beds where the incidence of over exposure has occurred. The effect of tanning beds that worked on UVB radiation have been well documented, with skin burning being observed frequently. This phenomenon caused manufacturers to shift to UVA-type operation where the effect of tanning beds based on this technology was perceived to be low. However, over-exposure to UVA radiation has been suspected to initiate immune system destabilization. Popular knowledge tells us that over-exposure to the sun’s radiation leads to skin cancer. So sun screens are a must for protection, even in artificial tanning to negate any adverse effect of the tanning bed.

In a way, answering the question “Are tanning beds good for us” is analogous to answering the question “Are French fries good for us”. Puzzled? When you have French fries in the right amount, it’s a great in-between mealtime snack, but when you get consistent overdoses of it, you can be assured of the road to obesity. And so is the effect of tanning beds too! Take all steps to ensure that you are safe on the tanning bed. Do your research, ferret the internet and speak to your doctor if it means so much to reassure yourself.

Treat the tanning bed with respect and you will be rewarded with what can only be called ethereal beauty. Have a safe and enjoyable tanning time!!

Do You See Clearly?

“I don’t see how I can just make up my mind to be happy and successful; and suddenly, magically, I will be. That seems to me to be a denial of my reality. My life is a mess. I am not happy. My life is not a success.” she wrote.

She was replying to my email response to her first inquiry. She had written to ask how I could write (in a previous article in this eZine) that if you wanted to be happy, you just had to choose to be happy. I had replied, in my first email, that how we felt about ourselves and our life was entirely within our control; and once we had decided to change how we felt, thought and believed, the circumstances and conditions of our lives would change to meet our new expectations.

This conundrum is surely the ‘catch-22′ of self-improvement. You must both accept the reality of where you are at and, at the same time, deny its ultimate veracity in order to create a new, bigger and better, reality.

Now, I am not saying you should go into denial about the facts of your life. That’s a huge mistake. Many people attempt to live with their shortcomings, failures and addictions by being in denial and it does not work. Nothing gets any better that way. Often it gets even worse.

Many people also attempt to change their life by muttering some affirmation like “I am happy, healthy, wealthy and wise,” in a blind attempt to convince themselves that they are not unhappy, unhealthy, impoverished and foolish. This does not work too well either.

I am not suggesting that affirmations are not useful. They can be a very powerful tool and, used properly, they can be a big help in changing your predominant thought patterns, your core beliefs and your basic emotional outlook on life.

However, it is necessary, if we wish to improve our lot in life, to first face and accept that we have certain core beliefs, predominant thought patterns and basic emotions attitudes. Then, we also must accept that it is these very beliefs, thoughts and emotions that have created the reality that we now have in our lives.

Then, we must decide to adopt new, improved, intentional ways of believing, thinking and feeling in order to create the new reality we have idealized and desired for ourselves. This is not denial. It is the acceptance of our co-creative abilities; and, the acceptance our freedom to choose what and how to think, believe and feel. It is the taking on of the responsibility for one’s life, as it is, and as it could be.

It is the facing and accepting of the truth that we cannot blame the conditions and circumstances of our present life for how we feel, how and what we think, what we believe. It is the facing and accepting of the truth that how we have been feeling, how and what we have been thinking, what we have been believing has actually contributed to the conditions and circumstances of our lives.

What we have is a result of what we have done. What we have done is a result of how we have been. How we have been is a result of how we have felt, thought and believed about ourselves and about life as a whole.

If you want to change or improve what you have in life (the conditions, circumstances–the effects), you must address the cause. You have the power to consciously and intentionally choose your feelings, your thoughts and your beliefs. These are the cause of your happiness and success because they control how you act or react, what you do or don’t do and it is what you enact, moment-by-moment, that produces the results you get to have day-to-day.

Yes, it is tough work. However, it is not as tough as living an unhappy and unsuccessful life. Why continue to do so just because you are habituated to doing so?

So, it is not about denying the reality of how life has been until now; it is about seeing and accepting that there is a greater reality in how you choose life will be from now on. Focus your vision on the ideal. Affirm its reality. Feel its reality. Believe in its reality. Act accordingly. Don’t be surprised when it turns out to be just the way you imagined it to be.

With a little bit of knowledge and research you can pinpoint several events every week that are likely to be total sell outs – using the information you have just read you can purchase tickets to them and then profit from them till the cows come home. To state the obvious, eBay is the best place to sell the tickets you’ve obtained – you’re almost certain to have a huge amount of interested buyers. Like most things it takes a little bit of effort to get started but this is a good and honest way of making some extra money each week. Exercise Fun

Do you consider exercise fun? Everyone wants to be fit and look good but what separates those that stick with it from the ones who call it quits within a month?

If you think of exercise as fun or an enjoyable experience you are more likely to make a commitment to make exercise a habit. People who exercise regularly also know the health benefits of being fit and that becomes a big motivating factor.

Exercise is what you perceive it to be and if you think of it as boring and a chore you won’t stick with it. But if you consider exercise fun, you can come up with lots of creative ways to make it something you look forward to each day and it will become a habit.

Here are some things to consider to help get you started:

1. Choose activities you enjoy. (example: swimming, walking, dancing or aerobics classes)

3. Vary the activities. Walk one day and swim the next, it will help eliminate the boredom.
